What ever happened to common courtesy? You know................ as a child growing up in the south, you were taught to be polite and to use your manners. The older I get the less I see of this. Children are just not taught this any more! It is so sad that courtesy and manners are dying out along with several other things that will come to mind later, I'll write about those another time. LOL! But right now, this is what has faced my husband and I these past weeks.
The past couple of weeks or so, we have been trying to get in contact with Gulf Life, now known as American General, to let them know we have moved and to have a representative to contact us. We have made several calls to the home office and a local office to give updates or what have you. The home office has said they have given information to the local office and the local office doesn't know anything! Mind you, we have made all the calls and no one has returned the favor. We are just a little upset because for the past twenty years we have had the premiums automaticlly withdrawn from our bank account every month. Now! Wouldn't this upset you?
I was always taught to say Thank You, Please, Maam , or Sir. While I was in Wal-Mart last week buying groceries, a deli employee was stocking cold cuts. I politely said hello, and asked how her day was going. After a couple of minutes she didn't even acknowledge that I had said anything to her, but did ask me in a short tone " can I help you with something. " My husband was on the other end of Wal-Mart picking up some prescriptions. When he came over to help me finish my shopping he proceeded to tell me about his encounter with the pharmacy cashier. He said she was very short and abrupt with her speaking and while talking to him she was putting on lip gloss. I'm sorry! But isn't that something you do in the bathroom or off to the side. Not standing in front of the customer! Right?
Now, last but not least. This week my husband goes to Parker's convenient store every day to get a bag of ice and a couple of two liter bottles of Coke. He's been doing this for about six months. For the past three or four times the ice has been in large unbreakable chunks that he doesn't want in his cooler. On this particular day an employee was in the cooler bagging small bags of ice. My husband asked if she would mind bagging him a large bag because he had been getting large chunks. She tells him No, that wasn't her job, she only bags the small ones. My husband dropped his jaw in amazement. He told her that if she was an employee of his, she would no longer have a job and asked for the store manager's phone number. He called a couple of times to complain, but had to leave a message. No returned call yet!
Well, I'm off of my soap box now! Just needed to rant and rave a little bit. Hope you understand? LOL!
If you feel the same way I do! Please let me know by leaving a comment. Thanks for the ear! Hugs Brenda
